GraphCalc and Simulation Games as Situating Tool

Date: 6th June 2022        Situating Tool Using GraphCalc and Simulation Games

Situating tools are systems or application which situate user in an environment where they may experience the context and happening. In another words we can say it is a tool which enables the teacher and the learner to situate in an environment to experience the context. Using of ICT as a situating tool in the learning classroom will helps the users to experience a virtually real environment mostly in a 3D image. Some of the examples of situating tools are simulation instructional game, virtual reality, google earth, geogebra, and c-map.

Using of simulation is extremely useful in the classroom. It assists the instructor to furnish the students with certain real-life environment which is troublesome or difficult to achieve. With respect to the students, it assists them with encountering those real-life situations which they have never been to. In this way, it builds the interest of the learner to learn more.

Some of the importance of situating tools are, it helps the user to situate in that particular environment. It also helps the learner to comprehend and manipulate variables and communicate with another user login. While using situating tools, the learner can foster their creativity and visualize different skills. Through such tools, we can communicate with other users who are logged in through online games and many more. It also foster creativity of the users and visualization skills.

We can integrate situating tools in teaching and learning through:

  • Experience of Virtual Reality Environment using Google Earth of the visiting place and knowing about the world.
  • Calculate the distance of the place using Google Earth.
  • Using educational software such as GraphCalc and Geogebra for predicting and observing the variables for generating line graphs.
  • Using simulation games to feel the experience about the Virtual Reality Environment.

In today’s session we looked at 2D Graphic Calculator, Google Map and simulation game. It was fun and interesting.

As we progress through our education, we realize that math becomes more of a complicated subject. While we can solve equations by hand, we end up wasting our time. We need a high quality graphing calculator to save you time and answer the questions more accurately. 2D graphic Calculator is one tool that can help you and save you time. Just by typing the equation, we can get the whole plotted graph which can save lot of our time.

Next, we looked at Google Earth software. While using google earth, we could see the visual 3D form of different places and visit the places which we have never visited. Just with our laptop and phones sitting, we can go anywhere and explore different places. It was very amazing and interesting to explore more. Such situated tools are so much beneficial to make people learn more.

We also looked at simulation game called ‘bug on a wire’ which was way too fun. Simulation games are often used in education and this is because learning this way can help you to retain information better than learning in a lecture or reading. Video games also help sharpen our attention and improves one’s focus.
